Cruz Moves is the most trusted Burlington County Residential Moving Company. As such, we take great pride in making moving fun and stress free. This includes providing helpful information to the community. (If you haven’t checked out our post called How to Pack in a Hurry, you should). When it comes time to move, it is best to decide what things are not going with you before you begin the packing process. When people live in one place for any given length of time, they inevitably start to gather a many things that they don’t really use or want. Random trinkets here and there, old electronics, unwanted gifts, old toys, etc..Before you move, you should take the time to de-clutter your home and make packing (and un-packing) a much lighter and easier process. The question remains though, where to begin???
Burlington County Residential Moving Company Moving Tips | Old Clothes You Never Wear
If you haven’t worn an article of clothing or a pair of shoes for years, chances are, you probably won’t find an occasion that you’ll need to wear it. There’s probably a reason you haven’t worn these things, whether they’ve gotten a bit snug, that pair of shoes you love simply gives you blisters- so these things just take up room in your closet and under your bed collecting dust. Instead of bringing these things along with you for the move, now’s the time to collect these things and donate your clothing and shoes to someone who CAN get some use out of them.
Things to Throw Away | Old Electronics
Personally, I have an entire box of cords that either don’t work, or I have no use for. I have old electronics that haven’t worked in years (like my first iPod mini, my broken iPad, an old CD player) FOR NO REASON. I’m not sure why I feel the need to keep these random cords ‘just in case’ there’s a time I’ll need it, but I will say- it’s been years and I’ve never once needed to open the box. I’m not even moving but writing this article now has given me reason enough to realize it’s finally time to part with these items.
Burlington County Residential Moving Company Moving Tips | Gifts You Never Used
Yes, it was nice to win that oversized stuffed animal from the boardwalk three years ago, but it honestly has no personal meaning tied to it. Same with the stocking stuffer gifts that my step mother must’ve spent five dollars on- holding onto these things indefinitely won’t do anyone any good, especially if it’s never been used and is just taking up space. No need for it to continue to take up space after you move as well.
Things To Throw Away Before Moving Day | You Have Multiples Of
How many throw blankets can a person really use? Probably only a couple- but looking around my room, I have more than ‘a couple’ stashed away here and there. Now is a great time to get rid of older looking towels, bed sheets, pillow and cases. Anything else you come across that you only need one of, now is the time to get rid of the extra bulk.
Burlington County Residential Moving Company | Kitchen Appliances
That steamer you once bought in hope you’ll soon be eating healthier sits vacant and untouched on your kitchen shelf, along with many other kitchen appliances. Your juicer is still in its original packaging. These things haven’t been used before, so chances are quite good you won’t magically start using them once you settle into your new place. Now is also a great time to get rid of some of your extra mugs, older travel cups, and whatever else you could probably live without- and don’t even use now.
Things to Toss | Unused Bath Products and Make-Up
Whether it was given to you as a gift, or you bought it to try out and it just didn’t work the way you wanted it to, it probably seemed a shame to throw out some of the fancy bath items you’ve acquired over the years. If you haven’t used your bath bomb or that pricey exfoliating scrub for the last two years, there’s little reason for you to hold onto it for another few years.
Throw Them Out | Items You Forgot Were in Your House
This should come as a no-brainer, but if you forgot entirely about items that are in your possession, you most likely won’t start to need them now. Unless you simply couldn’t find a favorite item until packing up to move, now is the perfect time to start afresh with nothing mysterious under your bed taking up extra space.
